Jesse Stone
Chief Stone is a former minor league baseball shortstop whose career was cut short by a shoulder injury. He is sure he could have made the big leagues but for that. He's been a police detective almost ever since - from the start of the series, now more than 10 years. He was asked to resign from his job as a homicide detective with LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division because of a drinking problem that developed after his divorce from his wife Jennifer after 5 years of marriage. Showing up drunk to an interview for a job as police chief for the small town of Paradise, Massachusetts (loosely based on the real town of Marblehead), Stone still landed the job because the head Selectman of Paradise thinks he will be easy to control.
