Ginny Potter, Ginevra Molly Weasley

Ginny is the youngest member of the Weasley family, the seventh child, and the only girl.

She appears only fleetingly in the first book but makes much more of an impact in the second where her disastrous first year at Hogwarts is the focus of the story, albeit unknown to her siblings and friends.

She makes only token appearances in the third and fourth books, but in the fifth proves a great help to Harry at times of need.

In the sixth book she and Harry have a brief but ecstatic romance which they are forced to "terminate" in a mis-guided attempt to protect her from harm.

During the seventh book (behind the scenes since Harry is on the run and therefore unable to actually see her for much of the time) their lack of success means that she has a generally miserable time. In the end, however, it is the memory of her that enables Harry to succeed in his task.
