Pantalaimon is Lyra's dæmon. We first meet him in the form of a moth, camouflaging with the dark wooden atmosphere of Jordan College. He takes many forms throughout the trilogy, but is most often seen as an ermine, a wildcat or a mouse. He even takes the form of a dragon once.
Pantalaimon most of the time works as Lyra's "voice of reason", who tries to talk her out of doing forbidden things, such as entering the Retiring Room in the first chapter of book one. Even though Lyra and Pan tend to argue about things, Pan is closer and more dear to Lyra than anything else in the world.…more
