Ealdgyth was a daughter of Uhtred the Bold and granddaughter of King Æthelred the Unready. She married a Cumbrian nobleman, Maldred of Allerdale, and was the mother of his son Gospatric, Earl of Northumberland, progenitor of the earls of Home and the earls of Dunbar.
