I'm a terrible singer and I've always loved spy novels. So, I made my main character in Beneath the Satin Gloves a lounge-singing spy. For three years I was immersed in that world until it ended and I had to move on. Writing is magical like that, the way it can whisk us away from the everyday familiarity.(less)

I discovered hidden treasures from 1954 within a vintage han…moreI hate to pick favorites with my books, but I love the way "Nola Fran Evie" came to life. I discovered hidden treasures from 1954 within a vintage handbag: two baseball tickets, a voting receipt, and a shopping list.

I pictured three women that could have owned the handbag and ran with their story. Because of the baseball factor, and because I love the movie "A League of Their Own," Nola, Fran, and Evie are players in the All-American Girls Baseball League who reconnect after the league folds.

This novel was pure joy to write, my first time creating fiction without the thriller element. I was sad to say goodbye to these characters when I finished it. Seriously...I cried like a little girl.(less)
