Love this series. Hearne has a great sense of humor and kept me on the edge of my seat almost the whole time (parts of it dragged a bit but all ended great). Can anyone recommend books that are similar in this specific genre? Set in modern or near-future times, includes an element of fantasy or sci-fi, funny at times. Other books I've enjoyed thoroughly in this genre are Ready Player One and Off to be the Wizard.

If you read my review you know I didn’t like this book at all... does it get better though? Does he become less of an arrogant d***ck as the series goes on? I honestly don’t see the comparison between this work of obnoxious fiction and Butchers art... Mister Rothfuss ... how can u five star this?

I didn't really see much in the way of character development. In fact it was that lack of character development or even a believable character (he's supposed to be 2000 years old and acts like a geeky frat boy) that helped to put me off it.

If you can read it as popcorn lit, then its probably worth continuing. Otherwise probably give it a miss.

As for why Rothfuss rated it 5, he's an author giving another author a leg-up. Boosts sales and potentially his by proxy. Just a theory anyway.(less)
