I thought it was so sad how she begs him to only use that one chair so she could always know where he is. I almost cried.(less)

Unanswered Questions (2)

There are two things I need to ask. One, what was the significance of the grandmother? Two, what is up with chair situation? These are the two things I just cant connect to anything or make sense of it.

I had a difficult time starting this book and staying with it. But then about 1/3 way through I was really hooked into the family especially the relationship of the father and daughter. I was slightly disappointed in the end and her last conversation with the brother, Joseph if only because the chair/chair imagery didn't resonate with me. Didn't anyone else have a problem with the chair as the metaphor for Joseph?
