Same if you prefer the much nicer English cover of book 2, "Moon over Soho" (ISBN 0575097604).(less)

The next one goes more in-depth but it's completely in keeping with the plot and not gratuitous. I have to admit the term "clean" to describe something that has no sex in it sort of bothers me, but there you are. If you want to read the whole series and are opposed to any kind whatsoever of descriptions of physical intimacy I would say don't read it but I'd be sad because it's a great series and the sex is part of the plot not the point.

(Mr. Butcher himself seems very nice and very fun, but yeah - there were things about those books that annoyed me.)

For sure this series hit the ground running in its first book more strongly than that one did. I think the humor was much more successful and the surrounding characters more representational and less problematic.

Especially for those who did not grow up in England, I think the various things you’ll learn along the way will be enough to elevate your interest. It has definitely replaced those books for my go to recommendation to someone who is asking about a modern witch/wizard/world of some magic-based UF series.
