Here we go again: I'm third of the way through this very long book and getting annoyed by Tartt's seeming inability to stick to the point. I don't know how far I got through the Secret History (it was really far) before I gave up hope and just stopped. Should I do same here? I love her writing but she needs to pick a story and tell it. Is there a story here? Or just Tartt's writing??

Does The Little Friend contain any animal abuse? I have read Donna Tartt's other books, but am hesitant about reading this one. If there is any kind of animal abuse in the book I'll rather give this one a miss.

In the last chapter, after Danny had been crying over Robin's death in a flashback, Mike says; 'guess he was your boyfriend.' Mike was very likely teasing Danny here, but do you think if Robin hadn't been killed, Danny and Robin would have potentially been together? I ask this since The Secret History had some queer undertones, so that may be the case here as well. Or I'm just reading into it too much.
