So I googled a bit and found in a NPR interview (Heller McAlpin) explained "the redhead is a lovely metaphor for the protagonist's inability to see clearly, which causes him to misread the relationships in his life." Of course, a perfect title. (less)

Micah kept thinking the fire hydrant was a person, but he was almost blind to the person-to-person relationships in his life until life brought it back into focus & Tyler left us with the possibility of a happy ending(?).(less)
