I think he just didn’t feel …moreI think you were definitely reading too much into it. Oscar Wilde wasn’t a perv, and this story was written for children. I think he just didn’t feel like going into details, leaving it up to the reader to fill in as creepy (or holy) a narrative as they wanted to. Since the story is about unselfish love and redemption, I think any sort of sexual encounter is even less likely. Most likely, Oscar Wilde didn’t want the story to get too long (as a description of what Virginia did for several hours would have made it) and he thought it was cooler to leave it up to the reader’s imagination (as he did with Dorian Gray’s sins). So I think it was all completely innocent—or as innocent as praying in a dungeon for a ghost’s salvation can be lol. (less)
