Definitely not a mystery, some thrilling elements, but really just a compelling story, very well told. The author brings us with him into places we'd never have access to normally, introduces us to strange, wonderful characters, and languidly retells a famous murder and it's long sought outcome. I am a thriller and mystery reader myself. It is my preferred genre, and this isn't that, but I loved it. (less)

The book has a variety of colorful characters, many themes and tosses in a mystery. Members of the book club are sure to have several opinions about each. To me, how each member views the same book differently makes a book ideal for a book club. This non-fiction book reads like a novel. PS. One Mothers Day when my three daughters were young adults, we went to a club to see Lady Chablis perform in a show. When she thanked the straight people for coming, the charming, talented drag queen looked right at my daughters and me.(less)

Should you have continued to read it? Of course not ( by your tastes & standards it was a bust of a literary work...) Ending = not for you....(less)
