Should I read the first book in the series before this one?

So excited to read this book, but I'm on page 163 and surprised at the amount of typos so far. Has anyone else found that or is it just me? I'm not used to a published book not having a great copy editor. Perhaps it's just the US publisher?

This repeatedly proved wise; I'm superb, not perfect.

One of my frequent checkers told me that after acquiring the duty she always noticed that published books and magazines usually had at lest a few typos in them. There seems to be no way of completely preventing that completely.

I think this one is actually better than average, tho not as good as some. I noticed several misplacements of very short words but no misspellings--I just finished a different novel where nearly but not quite all cases of "discreet" were misspelled "discrete", and the content meant there were dozens of instances!(less)

I was surprised at the frequency of Thaniel and Mori picking Six up. She's nine years old. I have a 9yo and I haven't picked her up in years. She would not stand for it. Of course, every child is different, but I don't see my daughter's third-grade friends' parents picking them up, either. I can chalk it up to Six being emotionally on the young side, but I'm curious if this was jarring to anyone else?

Because of her early years in the workhouse she grew up malnourished so never developed at the same rate as a healthy child? I also read one review suggesting she's autistic, so that could also be a contributing factor to emotional development.

I could be wrong though. I always pictured her as very small though. (less)

Why is this book tagged as LGBT? I saw one review mention that apparently Thaniel and Mori became a couple in the first book, but nothing else mentions this and the blurb says they're "close friends." Are they gay or not?
