My friends and I call her books "heavy chick lit" because they're easy to read but delve into some serious stuff. We've used Three Wishes as a book club book and want to use The Husband's Secret. I think this one would be great as well. (less)

Not to mention, the story is set in Australia, so even if they were black, they wouldn't be "African-American".

On the other hand Tom is described as having skin the color of "weak latte" in the winter, and "hot chocolate" in the summer, so I did wonder if he might be black or biracial. But more likely he's just tan from surfing all the time.

Madeleine bemoans Pirriwee as being "white bread" and non-diverse. Given that, It seems it would have been relevant if one of the main characters had been non-white, and that Liane Moriarty would have mentioned it since she's very descriptive of her character's physical characteristics.(less)
