However, it is nice to know the background just to give it a bit more depth but certainly not necessary to be able to follow the story and totally enjoy it!(less)

It is also better for appreciating the development of and the significance of the relationships amongst the main protagonists.
Vanish is number five in the series. The series order is: The Surgeon; The Apprentice; The Sinner; Body Double; Vanish; The Mephisto Club:Keeping the Dead; Ice Cold; The Silent Girl; Last to Die; Die Again and I know a Secret.
For example, an important character in The Sinner is re-introduced in the The Mephisto Club and if you had not read the earlier book, the emotional charge and dilemna this brings is not so well appreciated.(less)
