It's not that she turns into a slut... she just evolves as a character and grows in strength/powers. To say more would give away story but if you aren't squimish about the sex you will love it.(less)

They have a similar "powerful mostly-human investigating supernaturals in a world with open supernaturals/magic" vibe but have better snark, better characterization, and a were-creature/pack based hierarchy and romance instead of vampire. They also go in a much more... monogamous/exclusive direction re: romance as the series progresses than Anita does.(less)

I read the first six or so books in high school - the sex is more graphic than a lot of porn I've seen (and I've seen 'bout as much as any man my age). It didn't help the raging teenage hormones any.
The violence and gore ratchets up with each subsequent book, too, though, IMHO, that wasn't nearly as graphic as the sex, from what I can remember.
As a teenager reading this book series, I felt edgy, rebellious, and liberated. My mom read it later and couldn't believe she'd bought them for me. Now, as a mother, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting my teenage daughter read the series without reading them, too, so we could discuss them. There's a LOT of adult topics covered as the series progresses, though this initial book is pretty tame and is probably the tamest of all.
Hope that helps. ;)(less)
