I found this book perfect for that age, as it raises a lot of questions people at that point in their life ask, and shows the author character going through them. We had this in our high school library, which was where I discovered it. It left a lasting impression with me in the best way possible, for being deep, beautiful and honest. Though to be fair I live in a country that considers nudity no big deal, and I've grown up with the frame of mind that hiding unsexualized naked bodies from children, especially teens, is unnecessary and perpetuates body shaming. I didn't even remember there being nudity in this until I reread it recently, so clearly that part didn't leave any lasting damages. (less)

Yo, I read Habibi! Y'know, readin' this book is kinda a pain. What did he mean when he said, "He pale beautiful skin?" Am I not beautiful because I have brown skin? (Not black) These are the type of questions a kid asks, (Like me). And I say, up to the part I've been rerading, I have seen not one, not two, but zero people diferent from the race of white. in that case ,Is that what Craig Thompson saw all around him?

Does Craig see only white people around him? Am I not beautiful because I have brown skin? (NOT BLACK SKIN!) Because all I've seen in this book are white people! Sure he's in dat area! In either case no, I'm sure Craig Thompson didn't mean that you are not beautiful because of brown skin... Sigh, does this even need saying? I'm sure he would be happy to spend a weekend with Beyonce or whoever else is on the celebrity roster this week.(less)
