For me, he only stated and clarified what was already happening. He had the corage to cut what was hurting.

It seem that way didn't it. Unfortunately there is no clear cut answer in the plot that I can see. And it was one of the few things in the book that really frustrated me because I didn't feel that it was explained well enough either.
