Yes, it is worth the time, the first book was great in the aspect that all of the following books benefit from the nature of the first. Meeting each of the characters in their own journey rather than everything being told from one person's journey with side characters allows for a much more intriguing series, and thus a greater reward waits for those who take the time.(less)

The book suffers from a bloat of characters, most of which get introduced at the start of each book in the series. The result is that you will spend an inordinate amount of time wondering when you will get to a point with a storyline that is actually interesting at this point.

I think an editor would have suggested the removal of certain characters and plotlines, many of which add little to the advancement of the story.(less)
