At one time she truly thought she had nothing left for Lestat. She took time away, wrote different books, and then decided to reread that entire series. And creatively she was stimulated again, once again she heard Lestat's voice, and knew she had tales to share again.

Disjointed, clunky dialogue, poor editing...and of course, what turned me off from her last few chronicle books--the characterizations of all of the gorgeous, rich, dandy, pansexual vampires who cry at the drop of a hat and fall in"love" with each other after they first meet. Ren I first read the entire series back in 2005 as a teenager and I intended to reread all of the books before getting to this one, but couldn't help myse…moreI first read the entire series back in 2005 as a teenager and I intended to reread all of the books before getting to this one, but couldn't help myself and started it anyway. While there is clear references and details made to the previous books, she does her best to gently remind you (but not spoon feed you) of there connections.

If you get lost, there's a non-spoilerish index of characters in the very back of the book and at the beginning she recounts on the story of how vampires were made. So, I got through perfectly fine without a reread and I think a post-reread of the other books is going to be infinitely more entertaining because now I'll be on the look out for certain... things.
