By showing his doubts and how he overcame them, the reader gains real insight into meditation. The "memoir" aspect actually makes it a much easier read than any other mechanism I can think of.

If you like memoirs, enjoy this one and learn from it. If you don't like them, but are curious about meditation, this is still a worthwhile read, because you will learn a lot.(less)
