It's been 2 years since I read it, but I wouldn't call it frightening either - it's more intense, similar to a mystery. If I'm remembering correctly, "The Nightmare" in the subtitle refers more to the threat of anarchy present in the book. It's a great story full of symbolism that gets readers of any age thinking. I plan on revisiting it in the near future. Hope this helps! (less)
