That one ‘victory’ cost him the chance of being DA and his daughter’s (and ex-wife’s) respect apart from the loss of the innocent people’s lives.(less)

Still, it's quixotic to deal with the failed DA run and the discord with Hayley as an aside or in various "tell the reader" moments, when it feels like exactly the kind of stuff that would act as a narrative thread in an entire book by itself.
