Perhaps the most direct reference to religion is a frequent use of the word "Maker," which is clearly a reference to diety.

However, the Christian overtones could not be more clear. Dealing with themes of identity, forgiveness, faithfulness, and sacrifice, anyone familiar Christianity will easily connect the dots back to biblical themes.

These four books tell a fantastic adventure of a family trying to survive against an evil force set on destroying them. I can't help but think anyone will enjoy them, even if you are looking to avoid overt Christian/religious themes. (less)

This is made clear in the characterization of particular Fangs versus the humans, but it is not the fact that they are Fangs that makes them evil (quite the opposite, actually). You'll get more answers once you make it to later books. I hope you give them a chance!(less)
