The only explanation I can come up with is that they really do not have that many people to choose from. Like, Walid is at least a properly trained doctor and evidently knows a fair bit about cryptopathology. Even if he had not had a "normal" pathology training, he would probably be the best they could find. Also, I'm not sure whether his age is mentioned, but I guess he must have had some free time over the years that he could have spent on this specific hobby. But I'll be the first to admit that my argument is not exactly solid.(less)
