How much did the Henrietta cost? In my copy it says £60,000, but Mr Fogg had only taken with him £20,000 much of which was spent by this time. Also Mr Fogg's fortune was £40,000, half of it he took to cover his expenses and half he kept to honour the bet. Is there a mistake in my copy? Thanks

Alex Rabbit It was 60,000 USD which makes around 9,600 GBP (exchange rate 0.16 at 1870) or 12,000 GBP (exchange rate 0.20 at 1880)

With rare exceptions, they aren't in any way related to one another. (The real exception is that you should read The Mysterious Island after 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.) It's just that all them are about incredible journey, whether a trip around the world, under the oceans, beneath the earth, to the moon, etc. (less)

New York is just 5 hours ahead of London. That means, if they had arrived in London one day in advance, they should have arrived in New York one day in advance too. Still, they missed the steamer 'China' only by a few minutes. How is this possible? How did they not know in New York that they were one day in advance? Thanks.
