This book is a HARD read. I feel that this is the slowest and hardest book to get through in the series up through book 5. It's highly political, with a lot of family posturing. Cersei is clearly the focal point of the book, and if you pay attention, you can see her character actually change (I won't spoil anything). But, her chapters are a snore.

Just get through it. It sucks. I get it, but it is worth it, as some character stories continue at the end of book 5, and you'll be glad you read book 4.(less)

Mummer is kind of an entertainer/actor. They travel in groups to entertain and perform shows.

People in Westeros believe that the god has seven aspects and Stranger is one of the seven aspects of the god according to the "Faith of Seven". People worship it rarely since it is related to death and believed to lead the dead to wherever they go after death.

Silent sisters are kind of undertakers and are sworn to the service of Stranger. They kinda deliver the dead to Stranger.(less)

It does get a bit better towards the end and has some plot links with book 5 as they happen at the same time - book 5 is a lot better so its worth powering through to get back to the good characters(less)
