Hi, I'm late to the party here, I just saw Divergent the movie and was wondering, do I need to read the first book or can i jump straight into Insurgent and follow the story.....?

My friend watched the movie and asked me if she should read Insurgent and i told her that if she wanted to get a clearer picture of the movie she should read the book first so basically its your opinion that really matters whether you want a clearer picture and more detailed information or whether you just want to follow the story. Years later she started again, but with Tris. Because people liked it as much as I do, she decided to write a 'book' about Four's point of view, because after all, that was her intention in the first place.(less)

Amanda was one of the people who would be joining the city to begin the experiment, and she was giving instructions and an explanation to the members of the city, about what was going on and what the purpose of their factions and the city was. It makes more sense in the third book, Allegiant, but the video was the hidden information that Erudite didn't want to share. It basically revealed to everyone that they were not alone in the world and that there was a reason for the factions and their way of living. Amanda also changed her name to Edith Prior when she joined the city, making her one of Tris's ancestors. Hope this helped!(less)
