However, the date read does set automatically if you mark a book as "currently-reading" first.

Yea, I had the same problem. Most of the books I have read in previous years but I imported them from the Kindle cloud all at the same time so they all have the current date. I was able to rate at least most of them.

I also read books multiple times. I have a memory problem that makes me forget really quickly. So, I am able to read some books over and over and get just as much enjoyment each time I read them.
