Goodreads on Kindle - It's Coming

I'm wondering whether this will be available on older Kindles, e.g. the Kindle Touch, or just the new models going forward.

Will this only be a US thing?

Is this going to be available on the Kindle Fire HD?

THIS. I'm dying to know, because I'm not going to buy a new Kindle, but I'd really like to have this feature.

Really hope this is coming to the newly announced UK Kindles. No mention of it on the UK Amazon site :(

Reading the media coverage, it looks as if Goodreads will only be available on the newest Paperwhite. :(

please link the kindle app with Goodreads! I have a Nook HD+ but only use the Kindle app to read!

Most likely it will. Amazon makes all the software updates available for older Kindles

Just got a new Kindle Fire HD. Hope that Goodreads syncs with this.

I just got a new Kindle Paperwhite a few months ago. Does anyone know if that is the "New" model they r talking about or is a newer one in the works? It would be really nice if Goodreads just synched up with ALL of the Kindles. If they are doing this they ought to just do it all the way...not only one model.

The fact that Amazon is now starting the heavy integration of goodreads to its other offerings makes me suspect I may need to find an alternative to goodreads. Kindle on the Android is a nightmare with no decent management options. How long until books on my want to read list start seeing the prices increase if I try to but them on Amazon? As long as Amazon doesn't abuse goodreads I will stay... I am however starting to suspect that may nt be an option.

I see the new Paperwhite is available on Amazon UK for pre-order too (glad I didn't get one last year in the end). However, I see nothing about GoodReads on the UK site - I can't see why it wouldn't be on the UK versions too. Can you confirm if it will or won't be?

It'd be nice to know if GoodReads will be added to all versions of the kindle, as I have a keyboard version that still works perfectly!

Really hope we can opt out of this. I have two separate accounts for a reason.

I have had goodreads on my Fire for a year, give or take a few months, in fact before I found it on the PC. I'm thinking this is for older Kindles?

What _I_ would like to see from this integration?
(fd: calibre user, kindle store user (but not all books from kindle store), owner of:Kindle Keyboard Kindle with 3G), Kindle Paperwhite, iPad3/iMad Mini/several iphones and ipod touches and 2 OS X machines one of which is Macbook Air)


- Ability to see ALL by shelves. or at least all exclusive ones, for example I have "maybe-continue-later" and "read-and-don't-finished" exclusive shelves. Sometimes book gets moved from currently-reading to one of those to. and sometimes back. It would be even better if ALL my shelves(incl. non exclusive) are here
- support for full Goodreads integration in software clients. I mean at least iOS and OS X clients.
- support for full Goodreads integration in currently owned Paperwhites and (=Kindle Keyboard)
- If I rate book on goodreads and it's Kindle Edition - it should also be rated on amazon. Same for reviews. Same in opposite direction
- Automatic progress update, every 10% (or every reading sessing).
- If book is not in currently-reading and I start read it, it should be added to currently reading. If I at 100% and finished - it should be moved to 'read' and I'm asked to provide rating.

- On 3G Kindles, goodreads.com should be added to allowed list in same fashion as amazon.com and english wikipedia is on list.

Amazon isn't trying to Absorb Goodreads is it? They have some aweful unresponsive "Shelfari" thing they keep emailing me about. It's like, a broken Goodreads. Don't let them have you!!

I don't want to have to buy a new kindle. Just want to put my reading status & reviews onto Goodreads from my Kindle instead of/as well as Amazon.

I hope you update fast the ipad app as well with that integration. It sounds fantastic.
I will not buy a Kindle as I use my tablet for many things besides reading. Please give this also priority!!!

This is a new Kindle feature, not a new GR feature, it will not effect anyone who does not have or use a Kindle. You will not see any changes to the Goodreads website because of this. I don't see how or why it would raise book prices and I'm not sure why you think it would.

They are talking about a new model to be released later this month, available for pre-order now. However, it's likely that some older models will receive a firmware update with these new features. They did this for the Kindle Touch when the first Kindle Paperwhite was released. I don't know if they will update ALL former models with these new features but they likely will for the current PW.

This doesn't stick to just computing resources Big Data is used by companies to maximize profits. i.e. what the market will bear. If they assume I will pay more for a book after listing it on my to read shelf do you think they will not exploit this extra profit capability?

What does this have to do with Kindle users being able to access GR on their Kindles though? The moment Amazon purchased GR they would have access to all kinds of internal data on GR, regardless of whether GR is integrated into Kindle or not. Hell, anyone can view books most shelved as to-read on GR, you don't need any kind of access to internal data for that: http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/t...
And of course, anyone can also view the amount of times any individual book on GR has been shelved as to-read.

Furthermore, Amazon have their own wishlist system they have always been able to pull data on most "want to read" books added. They probably are also able to track how many times a Kindle sample gets downloaded, also showing them how much interest there is.

Your concerns may have some validity but regardless, they have nothing to do with this particular development. Amazon has always had ways to determine what books readers are most interested in and whether they've acquired new methods to establish that or not, it's got nothing to do with Kindle.

I have a Kindle keyboard - hope it will link via a software upgrade?

it says about updating statuses from 'shelves', but will there be the option to update from within the book itself? So much easier to sync progress to GR that way rather than exiting book, going to shelves and doing it there.

I'm a highschool teacher with about 30 Kindles for my classroom. So far all I've been able to use them for are webquests, and dictionary scavenger hunts. The problem is our school can't afford a classroom set of books from Amazon. Does anyone know if they have a program to sell at a discount to schools? Otherwise we will have to get Ipads, which do offer free books for schools.

If it's the same as other social accounts, you would have to sign in to your Goodreads account from your Kindle before you can use it. So technically, if you don't sign in, it's like opting out.

Considering I stopped using Goodreads when they deleted hundreds of titles from my reading list because they were Kindle books and not "REAL" books, I find this hysterical.

I chatted with amazon a few days back to see if the software update would be made available for older paperwhite models. I was told, "I'm sorry but I don't have any information about that at this time." Definitely not a "yes." :-(

They made sure to specify "new" paperwhites. I guess we will have to wait and see. I wish they would say yes or no already

I have an "old" Kindle Paperwhite as well. Like most of the other commenters I hope that Goodreads integration will be made available to other Kindles in addition to the newest Paperwhite. I have no intention of buying a new Paperwhite since the previous one is perfectly fine.

I would think it is very likely that Amazon will release an update with Goodreads to other Kindles. They own the site now so wouldn't they want as many Amazon customers as possible to use it? They are probably remaining mum on it right now because they want a lot of people to get the new Paperwhite and they might not if they knew an update was coming to their current Kindle by the end of the year or something.

Why exactly? If you don't have a Kindle, this won't effect you in the slightest, you won't notice any difference or change whatsoever. If you do own a Kindle but don't want this feature, simply don't use it.

I already have the Goodreads app on my IPod Touch and Kindle Fire but on the Fire it does not allow the free e-books offered by Goodreads. So I'm stuck reading my story on my small Ipod Touch screen. Very frustrating. Why isn't the app the same for all platforms?

I hope they do an update for Kindle Fire HD, as I have no intention of getting yet another Kindle just to get the Good Reads app.

Can anyone at GR find out if they will update over-air for us as well please?

I'm thinking of getting a paperwhite, but I'm also curious if Goodreads would be accessible for free via 3G just like Wikipedia or the Amazon site. THAT would make me get a 3G. But there doesn't seem to be much info on that...

Well, there goes any thought I had of buying a paperwhite. No way unless the goodreads connection can be disabled. GR does not get to peek at my Kindle or get to know my Kindle email.

Hopefully we can remove this feature?

I'm sure it will be an opt in feature. If you don't enter your GR login details in your kindle, how is it supposed to connect to your account?
