Goodreads on Kindle - It's Coming
You asked and it's coming! Amazon has just unveiled its new Kindle Paperwhite, and you can see images of the new Goodreads on Kindle here. You can check out more in this media story.

Integrating Goodreads and Kindle has been one of the most popular requests from our members...
...so we're happy to be able to tell you that Goodreads on Kindle will be coming in an over-the-air (i.e. automatic) update to the new Kindle Paperwhites in a few months.
Of course, Goodreads will continue to be the home for all readers, whether you read print books, read on an ereader or tablet, or listen to audiobooks. We're working on new features and improvements to the Goodreads experience on our website and mobile apps.

It does say on the new Kindle page that the GR feature is "COMING SOON", not that it's available now. A few other features are labelled "COMING SOON" too - it's like they've rushed the release of the Kindle before the new firmware was completely ready to go out with it. Oh well, in any case, the firmware will update itself when ready and then the new features will be available.
What about the Kindle app for iPad? I can't afford to buy a Kindle Paperwhite (nor would I want to, as my dad's Kindle suits me just fine!), but I would really like to be able to integrate my Goodreads progress tracker with my Kindle app! Same goes for iBooks if anyone cares...!
My ideal for this would be to get a prompt each time I start reading a book to ask me if I'd like to update GoodReads with my book progress. After that it automatically does a progress update after each reading session of more than a page or two.I suppose the difficulty they might have is that kindles don't have page numbers...

Re. the lack of page numbers, the Kindle tells you your progress in percentage, so maybe that could be transferred to Goodreads?

Stop trying to make everything about one particular issue.

Does anyone know when Amazon will release the software update? Also, will Goodreads integration will be available for the Kindle touch or the first Kindle Paperwhite?
It's been released today, but only for Paperwhite 2 and only in the US.

Some are hopeful they will add it to the PW1 in time but there's no assurance of that.
For everyone who has a Kindle Paperwhite 2 outside of the US and would like to upgrade to Firmware Version Kindle 5.4.2 (which has Goodreads integration): I just manually updated my German kindle and Goodreads works on it!You can get the upgrade here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custome...
If you don't immediately see the Goodreads 'g' after updating, which was the case for me, try restarting your Kindle / pushing the power button.

Books are so interesting and I just love the way they bring you into them it's like your in it
FYI, it's now available on the PW1 with the latest firmware update and yes, it's opt-in so if you don't want it, just do nothing.
How do i connect my kindle to goodreads? I just bought a new Kindle basic with touch.
