A Life in Books: Share Your Reading History on Facebook Timeline
Now you can showcase your entire reading history—all of your books and reviews—with Goodreads for Facebook Timeline. Our members are already using Goodreads to post what they've read and are currently reading, their reviews, progress updates, and quotes to Timeline. When we launched two weeks ago, Facebook only allowed new books to post, and Goodreads members quickly added more than one and a half million books!
Part of the joy of Goodreads is the ability to look back at what you've read over the years, and now Goodreads for Facebook Timeline allows you to share that experience. Pair your online world with your most meaningful books—from the books you loved as a child to your latest literary obsession. You'll see fun reading statistics for each month and year: How many pages did you read in January? Did you read more books in 2010 or 2011? Watch your read count grow in 2012. It's yet another way to highlight something dear to you, your books.
Goodreads for Facebook Timeline will show you which books you've read each month and year, as well as statistics for your entire reading history.

Does it only show the default covers of books, and not the edition you have?

I agree completely. While the correct edition does appear in my bookshelves, it switches to an English edition when it's posted on the Timeline.

Question: When I add the books, not all with finish dates get added. Here is the screen message: "The Books with Finish Dates [?](520 books) Add to Timeline 436 books added" Why don't they all get added? I tried three times.

It may take a few tries before all the books load. Not sure exactly why that's the case, but it seems to be how it's working.

I'll have someone look into that.

Sorry about that. Have you made a status update in any of the new books you've been reading? Did you apply a "date read" to the ones you've finished?

Same with me. I spend much time scanning and uploading covers for the books I read, many older first-editions. I can only hope that GR will fix this issue at some point.

I haven't made status updates other than adding the new books to my 'currently reading' section. I do have date read for all of my completed books, by year.
Now, I have a different log-in for Goodreads and Facebook, but they are linked. I do see some activity on my timeline, but like I said, nothing has updated since January 18th or 19th.

Do you see anything in your Activity Log since 1/19? I asked a developer about the "currently reading" section being "stuck" and we figured out what went wrong. We're adding something that should make it update more often. It should be released soon.

That's actually intended behavior. We switch to the most popular edition to help Facebook make interesting connections between users. For example, if you and your friend Mark were both reading "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card, you would both see it on your News Feed. We think such connections have the potential to be really interesting and valuable (impromptu book club?). If the editions were not the same, it would be much harder for Facebook to detect.
However, we have received a few complaints about this. We're researching how we might be able to show the cover image for your edition or somehow link back to the your edition, despite this. In any case, thanks for reporting.

On a more positive note, thanks for allowing us to add our past books! I really wanted to add my stuff from 2011.
I look forward to having my timeline resemble the demo pictures.

I'll have someone look into that."
any update on this?

It shows two books that I started reading, but not that I finished one of them, and that I made progress on another (but doesn't show I started reading it), and that progress shows only because you asked if I had made any status updates, so I tested it. I went and said that I was on page# of page#, and that showed up. So since the 19 there have been 8 posts, but there should be more.
Stuck is exactly what seems to be happening, and I look forward to that fix. I do love that we can see Goodreads on the Timeline!

I have just added a book to my to-read shelf, 'The Egyptian' by Mika Waltari, and guess what - the most popular edition is in Persian! So I have a Persian title displayed on my timeline. Believe me, I won't make any interesting connections with other users basing on this title ;-)

GR priorities are wrong here: 1) First, never change what a user enters - imagine if FB censored or otherwise changed what someone posted; and 2) When you can assure GR users that what they "post" is secure and inviolate, then figure out how to foster "connections" between users.

and you are refusing a chance for other editions to become 'popular'

I am NOT putting all of my various activities on the web on facebook. If I want to share activities, I will share activities directly, but I will NOT give ANY website carte blanch to post whatever they want on my facebook page or anywhere else. It's the same thing Spotify tried to do, it's the same thing many news website are trying to do by forcing you to use your facebook login and profile to use their forums or commenting features.
Facebook has its place, but I refuse to use it as my singular identity. Too much power and control in the hands of ONE place, and I don't need that in my life.
At least you are giving me the choice to connect, or not. I choose to NOT connect. I hope you keep that option available for people.

It also says on the app my 'most read authors' are with 2 books or 1. For Jacqueline Wilson, it says she is one of my 'most read authors' for ONE book, but I have read THREE of hers! There are some other Authors for 1 or 2 books as well, which is really strange as I'm sure I have read more than one of them and have read more from other Authors?
What to do?! I'm really upset I lost a convo I had with a girl today and also all my game statuses and achievement posts etc.
Anyway to remove the app? And will my statuses come back? :(

How can I get my CURRENTLY READING list to show on my Facebook page? I don't see that section at all, let alone an option to have that be my default display.

Becky, I'm really sorry to hear those status updates are missing. Just so you know, we have absolutely no power over the updates of other apps on Facebook. We can't remove them on our end. My best guess is that since so many updates from Goodreads were sent, Facebook began to prioritize us over your other apps. Can you find the other updates in your Activity Log?

If so, what is the best way for us to interact with you?

If so, what is the best way for us to interact with you?"
Yes, of course. We try our best to keep up with comments like these, but the best avenue is probably our support email address - support (at) goodreads (dot) com.

i was supporting your argument :)

Oh ... I need to calm down lol

It is entirely understandable.
The staff at goodreads do not seem to understand how important books are to their users - and how important exact control over our books are.
We dont want random covers, we dont want unpredictable updates, we dont want wrong info about books read or about frequent authors. We dont want our comments deleted, we dont want 'read on goodreads' when we read on our kindle or from an actual book; and people getting confused if goodreads is a reading platform. We dont need reviews and updates with precious conversations disappearing and we dont want it to stop and start working with no warning whatsoever.
What we need is an app that just works and allows us to get on with our reading and sharing it with interested people.

If you enter it by the ISBN number usually it gives you the version that you've read. I've found that only if it's a really old copy of the book and you enter that ISBN then sometimes the cover has been updated.

Also I've finished 4 book in January but it just doesn't show which books I've finished. It shows the books I've tagged as 'to-read'.
Hopefully these glitches will be resolved soon.. I also use pinterest and it's very quick to add stuff to my timeline.
