Peek If You Dare: Our Guide to New Horror Books Coming This Fall

Controversial opinion: It’s never too early to celebrate Halloween.
That’s the guiding principle for this year’s sneak peek at upcoming fall season horror books. The autumn is always a good season for scary stories, but holy moly, this fall is packed.
In fact, you might characterize this collection as an extended sneak peek. There are so many intriguing horror books in the hopper just now. We wanted to include all the cool stuff we’ve been stacking and sorting. Each of the individual titles below is scheduled to publish in the U.S. between the end of August and December.
We’ve got new books from high-profile authors like Tananarive Due, Rachel Harrison, and Stephen Graham Jones (generational horror, slasher weddings, and hugely anticipated sequels, respectively). We’ve got buzzy debut novels from promising new writers like Deena Helm, Mathilda Zeller, and Samantha Josephs (haunted house horror, folklore horror, and pregnancy body horror). And there’s something nasty in the London Underground.
Some other rabbit holes to investigate: Author and filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun’s Public Access Afterworld is a novelized sequel to her 2024 indie film, I Saw the TV Glow. L.A. author Sarah Langan (Good Neighbors) continues a recent mini-trend in what we might call trad wife horror. And short fiction fans will want to flag Back for Blood, the sequel to the 2023 anthology Never Whistle at Night.
One final note for old-school Stephen King fans. The long-awaited third book in The Talisman series, King’s collaboration with horror godfather Peter Straub, is scheduled to hit shelves October 26. Just in time.
