It’s Literally Summer! 93 Topical Titles for Your Seasonal Reading List.

Looking for some good summer reading? Why not get literal? And we mean literal in the old-school, classic sense of the term—not the new way, in which “literally” means “figuratively.”

We’ve gathered below 93 books that are literal summer reads in that the word summer appears in the title. See? Profoundly literal!

As you may have deduced, this is not a particularly analytic or data-driven collection. The books below roam heedlessly across multiple genres—lots of romance, naturally, but also mysteries, horror, fiction, fantasy, a few Literature 101 classics, and some nonfiction sprinkled at the end.

This one is all about discovery. The fun part of sorting books this way is that you might find a classic beach read specimen—the coastal Carolina romance Summer State of Mind, say—sorted right next to an old-fashioned, 1980s-style slasher. In this case, Craig DiLouie’s brand-new horror novel, The Summer Fun Massacre. Masked psychopaths. Paring knives. Camp counselors making poor decisions at 3 a.m. This kind of thing.

Peruse the collection and you’ll find all kinds of interesting variations on the theme: YA historical fantasy about summers at the castle. Thoughtful coming-of-age stories set in Jamaica (during hurricane season, no less). Dual-timeline family dramas that flash back to San Francisco’s famous Summer of Love in 1967. Keep scrolling down for gripping nonfiction stories concerning baseball, social unrest, and the Scopes Monkey Trial. (That last book won a Pulitzer, by the way.)
