A Gift Guide for Very Specific Readers in Your Life

As you might expect, we are book people here at Goodreads World Headquarters—rather intense book people, actually. And when the holidays roll around, we like to put our very lifestyles to good use. Experience has taught us that books make the best gifts. The trick, of course, is knowing which book to get for which person.
Today’s specially curated collection is sorted into categories representing various kinds of readers, family members, and potential gift recipients. You’ll find categories that are both broad (The Cozy Lover) and specific (The Jumpscare Seeker), practical (The Aspiring Author) and playful (The Never-Left-Their-YA-Phase Reader). For younger readers, we’ve added a series of recommended books with suggested age ranges. And we’ve got audiobooks covered, too.
Sorting by reader type in this fashion actually generates a fascinating cross-section of genres, topics, themes, and styles. Most of the books here are relatively recent, but you’ll find a few stories that go back a ways—1813, for instance, or, in the case of certain retellings, the 8th century BCE. Recommended books might feature NASA astronauts, or Lebanese philosophy teachers, or the history of the crossword puzzle. Or, you know, Cher. If nothing else, you’ll find some great book cover images in this set.
Click on those book cover images for information about each title. You can use the Want to Read button to add books to your digital bookshelf as a kind of holding space for gift ideas.
