Readers’ Most Anticipated 2025 Romantasy Books

Romantasy, the subgenre that sits at the intersection of romance and fantasy, has evolved into one of the busiest areas in the book world. Not coincidentally, 2025 is packed full of books that merge fantasy tropes with romance storylines in various combinations and proportions.
To help with your imminent reading plans, we’ve collected the most anticipated adult and YA romantasy releases of 2025 so far, as determined by Goodreads members’ early reviews and Want to Read selections. As always, bear in mind that romantasy is by nature a slippery genre tag. We did the best we could with the sorting, but you might find certain books you expect to see here in our 2025 Sci-Fi & Fantasy preview instead, and vice versa.
A few interesting highlights and developments, in no particular order: Onyx Storm, the third installment of Rebecca Yarros’ galactically popular Empyrean series (Fourth Wing), is slated for publication on January 25. In February, Kristen Ciccarelli returns with Rebel Witch, the sequel (and conclusion) to last year’s YA hit Heartless Hunter. And author Rachel Gillig is getting a lot of buzz for her gothic series opener The Knight and the Moth, coming in May.
There’s plenty more to love this year. You’ll find books inspired by Persian folklore (The Starlight Heir), Norse sagas (A Curse Carved in Bone), Japanese legends (Gate to Kagoshima), Egyptian history (The Jasad Crown), and Hindu mythology (The Legend of Meneka).
As usual, there are some beautiful cover designs in the mix, and at least one hall-of-fame book title contender: M. Stevenson’s cozy-fantasy equine adventure, Behooved. Click on the cover images below for more information on each book, and add any interesting leads to your own Want to Read shelf.

Half of these books I need to read asap. Onyx Storm, Ballard of Falling Dragons, Knight and Moth, Enchantra, Accomplice to the Villain, Rebel Witch, and Fearless are my main ones!
I can not possibly wait 107 until fearless releases. Super excited to see how Lauren Roberts wraps this series up!
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I am so glad most of the books I’m waiting for are coming out soon ( Jan - April ) and I won’t have to wait long!!!! My family won’t see me for WEEKS
I'm so excited for Onyx storm and Fearless.
I love that romantasy is a separate genre because when you expect traditional high fantasy and get Fourth Wing you might get disappointed and the same if you like ACOTAR, then some classic fantasy might seem boring.
i dont have a ton of YA romantasy in my tbr, but dl taylor's first book - the beasts we bury - sounds kinda rad
Wow these books really are going all out with cover art!! 🤩 I came into this list knowing I would be interested in at least some but now... I am interested in quite a few 🤣
I think one book missing from this list that is coming out this year is Burn of the Everflame by Penn Cole.
So excited for A DESERT OF BLEEDING SAND. My number one anticipated! https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/sho...
There's a fair few I am excited by but nothing is as exciting as Floating Worlds, Axie Oh only writes pure magic and I am spellbound by her
Happy about new books by Sangu Mandanna and Recheal Gillig ..The ones I am most expectig and are not here are:
The Night Prince by Lauren Palphreyman
(31.03)
The Princess of Blood by Sarah Hawley (Sept)
Among the adult romantasies that aren't sequels in a series, there is only one (1!!!!) book that features a relationship between people of the same sex. What a sad state of the genre.
Glyn wrote: "Does anyone know if any of these are sapphic?"Seems to be only Homegrown Magic in the adult romantasy section, and in the young adult section there's Where Shadows Meet, Brewed with Love, Where Shadows Bloom, and I believe also Tenderly, I Am Devoured though it's not solely sapphic if it is at all.
Just casually sitting on my chair and being unable to not scream bc of Onyx Storm and Fearless coming out this year! 🤭🫶❤️ Love y'all
