Readers’ Most Anticipated 2025 Romantasy Books

Romantasy, the subgenre that sits at the intersection of romance and fantasy, has evolved into one of the busiest areas in the book world. Not coincidentally, 2025 is packed full of books that merge fantasy tropes with romance storylines in various combinations and proportions.
To help with your imminent reading plans, we’ve collected the most anticipated adult and YA romantasy releases of 2025 so far, as determined by Goodreads members’ early reviews and Want to Read selections. As always, bear in mind that romantasy is by nature a slippery genre tag. We did the best we could with the sorting, but you might find certain books you expect to see here in our 2025 Sci-Fi & Fantasy preview instead, and vice versa.
A few interesting highlights and developments, in no particular order: Onyx Storm, the third installment of Rebecca Yarros’ galactically popular Empyrean series (Fourth Wing), is slated for publication on January 25. In February, Kristen Ciccarelli returns with Rebel Witch, the sequel (and conclusion) to last year’s YA hit Heartless Hunter. And author Rachel Gillig is getting a lot of buzz for her gothic series opener The Knight and the Moth, coming in May.
There’s plenty more to love this year. You’ll find books inspired by Persian folklore (The Starlight Heir), Norse sagas (A Curse Carved in Bone), Japanese legends (Gate to Kagoshima), Egyptian history (The Jasad Crown), and Hindu mythology (The Legend of Meneka).
As usual, there are some beautiful cover designs in the mix, and at least one hall-of-fame book title contender: M. Stevenson’s cozy-fantasy equine adventure, Behooved. Click on the cover images below for more information on each book, and add any interesting leads to your own Want to Read shelf.

I'm so excited for Onyx storm and Fearless.

The ones I am most expectig and are not here are:
The Night Prince by Lauren Palphreyman
(31.03)
The Princess of Blood by Sarah Hawley (Sept)

Seems to be only Homegrown Magic in the adult romantasy section, and in the young adult section there's Where Shadows Meet, Brewed with Love, Where Shadows Bloom, and I believe also Tenderly, I Am Devoured though it's not solely sapphic if it is at all.

Enjoy reading everyone!
