Readers' Best New Nonfiction of 2023 (So Far)

Perhaps you’re curious: Hey, Goodreads, what are the most popular new nonfiction books of the year so far?
Well, as it happens, we’ve compiled a list here that answers that specific question. Below are the most popular nonfiction books on Goodreads from the first half of 2023, from January through June. The list is determined by which titles are getting the most reviews, and perhaps more importantly, which books are ending up on readers’ Want to Read shelves. We’ve added an additional check by only including books that have an average overall rating of 3.5 stars and up.
You know what they say about truth, fiction, and strangeness, right? There’s plenty here to back up that old nugget. How about shipwreck and mutiny on the high seas, circa 1742? Or the surprising (and worrisome) history of plaques and pandemics? Or, a personal favorite here at Goodreads World HQ, 432 pages on the improbably fascinating topic of wolves….
You might spot some familiar names here, too, like NPR’s Mary Louise Kelly, professional celebrity Pamela Anderson, and some prince named Harry. Music lovers will recognize the gloriously bearded industry legend known as Rick Rubin. (Great book, by the way.)
Scroll over the book cover images below for more details and add anything interesting to your Want to Read list.
