A Month-by-Month Guide to Summer's Biggest Mysteries

Posted by Cybil on May 15, 2023

Murderous rich people betray one another on Fire Island. A Black sheriff walks a dangerous line in the Deep South. A true-crime podcaster makes an unpleasant discovery in London.

Such are the sleuthing delights awaiting readers in this year’s Big Summer Mysteries collection. As always, these selections are determined by Goodreads members who have added the books to their Want to Read shelf and/or submitted positive reviews as early readers. All titles are scheduled to publish between the start of May and the end of August.

This year’s smorgasbord is divvied up by publication month (in the U.S.), and you’ll find some familiar veteran authors in the mix, including Ruth Ware, Colson Whitehead, and Rachel Howzell Hall. There are plenty of deliciously disturbing plotlines to discover. And we didn’t even mention the schoolyard chant about the 1929 Hope family murders…

Scroll over the book covers to learn more about each title, and add the ones that pique your interest to your Want to Read shelf.

I don’t think we’re getting a new Gamache book this year. Louise confirmed in a recent newsletter that, while she’s working on a new one, it won’t be ready this year. (Although, we’ve been told this and surprised before!)

Dakota Holmes Thank you GoodReads, for making sure I never finish my TBR 😅

message 15: by Kyann (new)

Kyann The Quiet Tenant is one of the most heartbreaking, heart pounding, gut wrenching book I've ever read! I will continue to recommend it to all of my fellow readers. It defies being put into just one genre and the author knows how to make you feel like you're right there in the mix. Love it!

message 16: by Anita (new)

Anita L. Are men not writing mysteries? Great to see so many women authors but there have to be more men that write mysteries, why the lack of representation here? Just curious, I read them all!

A. Walters The Woods are Waiting is one of my top reads of the year!
