Meet This Year's Class of Debut Young Adult Novels

Posted by Sharon on August 22, 2022

One of the abiding thrills for an adventurous bookworm is coming across a great new author before the rest of the world catches on. Enthusiasm is contagious, plus it’s a generally rewarding approach to life itself.

We’ve collected here a smorgasbord of young adult debut books from 2022, divided into Available Now and Coming Later This Year. These books are all the first original YA offerings from their various authors (even if a handful of these authors have previously written adult or middle grade fiction).

From the trend-watch desk, fantasy is still quite popular, like this one about an intermittently extant hotel, say, or a monstrously complicated boyfriend situation. We’ve also noticed a significant uptick in YA horror of late, concerning doomsday cults, walking bone piles, and carnivorous private school entities. And look for a nice variety of queer rom-coms and a sweet love story from a writer better known to fans of The Atlas Six as Olivie Blake.

Scroll over the book covers below for more details about each title, and add any promising leads to your own Want to Read shelf.
