Posted by Cybil on May 16, 2022

Summer reading time has arrived, and for the serious reader that means it’s time to enact a game plan. There are just too many good books, that’s the pleasant problem. If you want to get a lot of reading done, sequencing is critical.

Mystery and thriller fans, this one is for you. Below are the most anticipated mysteries and thrillers of the summer. Lots of delicious creepiness on tap: Jazz Age murder, circa 1924. A killer on the loose at 26,781 feet above sea level. Death by yoga, maybe. Also watch for new books from genre professionals, including Ruth Ware, Riley Sager, and Rachel Howzell Hall.

message 10: by Janet (new)

Janet STOP STOP STOP!! lumping Thrillers and Mysteries together!! There are some of us who live a good mystery but hate "thrillers". They are two separate genres.

message 11: by V (new)

V Jones I agree with Janet, myteries and thrillers should each have their own category.

message 12: by Heather (new)

Heather I'm currently reading an early release copy of Things We Do in the Dark and it's great so far!

message 13: by Olivia (new)

Olivia Barry One Step Too Far ~ Lisa Gardner is a fabulous writer.

message 14: by Missmath144 (new)

Missmath144 I agree with Janet. Thrillers don't fit in with mysteries. They're à whole thing.

message 15: by Jude Fischer (new)

Jude Fischer Do men not write novels anymore? I look at the list and would say it's 90% women authors. What's going on with publishing houses?

I agree with Janet as well. ☺

message 16: by Paige (new)

Paige Turner Who cares if Thrillers and Mysteries are together! FFS, that's a pretty trivial thing tho get your panties in a bunch about!

I finished ONE STEP TOO FAR a few days ago. Great book. I already had 12 of the books listed here on my Want To Read List here on Goodreads and have so many, many more not listed.

message 17: by Rikki (new)

Rikki So many of these sound intriguing! I want to read them all, honestly.

message 18: by Beach (new)

Beach Jude Fischer - here's a great new Thriller for you to read - written by Kevin Kuhens - Terror's Sword. It will keep you engaged from the first sentence to the last.

mine too.

message 22: by Laura (new)

Laura I agree with Janet. I don’t like Thrillers. I love a good “murder domestique,” but I am not interested in thrillers at all. Can’t we just keep mysteries with mysteries? I hate having to weed through all these “psychological thrillers” to get to something I would enjoy.

message 23: by Denis (new)

Denis Wheller Jude Fischer wrote: "Do men not write novels anymore? I look at the list and would say it's 90% women authors. What's going on with publishing houses?

I have commented on this disparity before on another thread. I read and review about 2 crime/mystery/thriller books a week and women writers dominate the category with around 60-70%. If I exclude action type thrillers that percentage goes up but if I exclude psychological thrillers it goes down. Looking at threads like this one, or the selection of reviews for any given title, women also dominate. Sometime I seem to be the only man.

message 24: by Holly (new)

Holly Havens I wish mysteries and thrillers would stop being lumped together also. And why doesn't anyone hype series books or make more lists of them? We fans wait long enough between releases for them - we should have more lists of upcoming series releases! I like mystery series, but am not such a fan of stand alone mysteries (or thrillers). :)

message 25: by Christy (new)

Christy Very surprised not to see The Second Husband by Kate White on this list. I am reading an early release copy and it is excellent!!!

message 26: by Jayna (new)

Jayna I am another who wants to see mysteries separated from thrillers. I prefer police procedural and detective stories, preferably written by women - although I love Anthony Horowitz and Charles Todd. I can’t believe you didn’t list the new Sara Paretsky.

message 27: by Lh (new)

Lh Janet wrote: "STOP STOP STOP!! lumping Thrillers and Mysteries together!! There are some of us who live a good mystery but hate "thrillers". They are two separate genres."

I wholeheartedly agree!

message 28: by Kristi (new)

Kristi YES, STOP lumping thrillers with mysteries! It is so time-consuming to weed out all the thrillers-especially psychological thrillers. I LOVE a GOOD MYSTERY & highly recommend both of CHARLES TODD's series.
