March's Hottest New Romances

Posted by Cybil on February 25, 2022

Some people love books. Some people fall in love. And some people love books about falling in love. Every month our team sorts through the new romance books and sees how early readers are responding, as measured by Want to Read shelvings and initial reviews. We use this information to curate a list of soon-to-be-beloved favorites.

New in March: A random sext leads to anonymized hotness in Lynn Painter’s Mr. Wrong Number. A hotel manager finds love in strange places in Trish Doller’s The Suite Spot. And a sexy firefighter saves the day in Libby Hubscher’s If You Ask Me. Plus: Horny fisherman, mischievous witches, and dentists in love.

In the follow-up to last year’s It Happened One Summer, author Tessa Bailey returns to the never-not-complicated love lives of the fabulous Bellinger sisters. This time around Hannah has moved into the spare bedroom of Casanova fisherdude Fox Thornton, who gets women just by dropping that incredible name of his. Their platonic arrangement becomes harder to sustain when Fox turns on the charm, and Hannah finds she doesn’t mind so much.

Harper is first-year dental student and aspiring oral surgeon. What with the cavities and the root canals and the drills, she doesn’t have time for love. When she meets handsome Dan in the new residency program, she keeps him at a distance. Their “just friends” approach works…for a while. But all that drooling! Mazey Eddings’ new romance is a good reminder for us all—dentists need love, too.

Modern love presents many novel dilemmas. For instance: What do you do when you get a sexting text that’s actually a wrong number? For Olivia Marshall, the decision is easy: You go with it. Then comes the next stumper: What do you do when your anonymous sexting adventure turns into the hottest and bestest thing in your life? Author Lynn Painter answers all these questions and more in the randy rom-com Mr. Wrong Number.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s proto-rom-com Taming of the Shrew, Nisha Sharma spins a modern parable on love, money, and daytime television. For complicated reasons, Kareena Mann has to get engaged within four months. Meanwhile, Dr. Prem Verna, host of The Dr. Dil Show, is in desperate need of funding for his new community health center. When their first encounter goes viral—for even more complicated reasons—an agreeable solution presents itself.

New from the author of Something like Normal, the heartfelt romance The Suite Spot follows the story of single mom and hotel manager Rachel Beck, forced by cruel circumstances to make a cross-country move for a dubious job prospect. Things start looking up, however, when she meets handsome and moody Mason at her new hotel. The hotel needs work. But then, so does Rachel’s life, frankly. And Mason could use some good news himself. Sometimes these things resolve themselves.

Abbi Glines’ popular Field Party series has been home to many triumphs, tragedies and love stories over the years. Game Changer, the sixth installment in the series, returns readers to the small Southern town where Friday night football rules, cute boys drive around in pickup trucks, and the parties always seem to get out of hand. Story details are scarce with this one, but rumor has it that the next book is titled The Last Field Party. So heads up on that.

Winner of this month’s unofficial Best Book Title award, this debut romantic comedy from new author Taj McCoy features plus-size heroine Savvy Sheldon, who is determined to remodel her entire life. Savvy inherited her spirit from her grandmother, who taught her how to love people by feeding them in her always-busy kitchen. Now Savvy’s ready to remodel her own kitchen—and everything else in her world—and why not start with that sexy new contractor she hired? Why not, indeed?

How’s this for a promising introduction? North Carolina advice columnist Violet Covington has decided to commemorate her husband’s infidelity by burning all his possession in a front-yard bonfire. It’s fun for the whole neighborhood! When the blaze gets out of control, Violet is pleased to meet severely hot firefighter Dez, who appears to be enthusiastic about a fling, There’s a story to tell the grandkids. Bonus trivia: Author Libby Hubscher holds a Ph.D. in molecular toxicology from North Carolina State University.

The second book in India Holton’s Dangerous Damsels series features a friendly coven of helpful witches who use their powers only for good. Tweaking things here and there, the League of Gentlewomen Witches strive to make the world a little better, a little smoother, a little more interesting. But when the long-lost amulet of Black Beryl is discovered, Charlotte Pettifer must team with irascible rogue Alex O’Riley to keep the artifact from falling into the wrong hands.

This fast-paced romance from author and Forever 35 podcast co-host Kate Spencer serves double duty as a love letter to The City That Never Sleeps. Franny Doyle has just gone viral in the most embarrassing way. When a subway door shreds her favorite silk dress, her inadvertent flashing incident is recorded and posted online. Of course. Now she’s forever paired with the gallant young man who came to her rescue with his Gucci suit jacket. Well, maybe something good can come of all this.
