is because Amazon chooses the books they think will be most likely to sell.

The Winds of War by Herman Wouk
North and South by John Jakes
Any of A Song of Ice and Fire books by George R.R. Martin
My favorite from the list, though, is The Stand by Stephen King

disagree. long books are tough sells... people spend so much of their time glued to their tiny smartphone screens, taking in the world in short bursts... a long read is an investment in time and attention, two things in short supply in today's world...

You're not wrong.

Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy and Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

Kristin Lavransdatter - Sigrid Undset
The Tale of Genji - Murasaki Shikibu
Black Reconstruction in America 1860-1880 - W.E.B. Du Bois
The Second Sex - Simone de Beauvoir
among others.

Truth to this unfortunately /:
River City by John Farrow . 864 fabulous pages!

I would add:
The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling Fielding, Henry
Darconville's Cat Theroux, Alexander
The Gray House Petrosyan, Mariam
Underworld DeLillo, Don
Darkmans Barker, Nicola
Cryptonomicon Stephenson, Neal
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle Murakami, Haruki

"Count of Monte Cristo" was the first eBook I read. Not obsessing (and being intimidated) by the size and length in this format, this felt so much shorter.
A fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable read, and you don't necessarily have to be a fan of "classic literature".
"Shogun" was also a quick read, despite the page count.
I agree with other who endorse "The Stand" .... a true latter-day classic. Stephen King peaked early, much like Orson Welles with "Citizen Kane".
I would add "The Source" by James Michener. If you love historical fiction, this is for you.

I just started The Stand last night. Based on the comments here, I am so looking forward to descending into this read!!! My aforementioned above may be a bit shy of 600+ and some are from my youthful days (early twenties) but I loved the long read nonetheless.

Mists of Avalon
Wild Swans
Swan Thieves
Gone with the Wind
The Book Thief"
Oh my gosh Wild Swans is so good. I haven't read it in so long!

The Labyrinth Of The Spirits is a good one...sometimes I'm a slow reader but I devoured this in less than 3 weeks!...it's 800+ pages! :)
