The Top 12 Mysteries & Thrillers of 2019 (So Far)

Posted by Cybil on April 1, 2019
Goodreads Mystery & Thriller Week 2019

We're four months into 2019 and we can now reveal the biggest mysteries and thrillers of the year...so far!

We've crunched our data to uncover the most popular books in the genre published in the U.S. from January through March, looking at readers' average ratings, number of ratings, and general buzz around a book (which we measure by looking at how many times a book has been added to readers' Want to Read shelves).

If you're in the mood for a locked room mystery, there are plenty of whodunits where the suspect has to be one of us—from strangers stuck in a blizzard to college friends stranded at a hunting lodge to an isolated community in the Australian Outback. Meanwhile, the two biggest hits in the genre—The Silent Patient and An Anonymous Girl—are both psychological thrillers featuring, well, psychologists.

Which of these books pique your interest?

message 86: by Freyja (last edited Apr 07, 2019 08:52AM) (new)

Freyja Vanadis I read The Silent Patient and was totally underwhelmed. The premise of the story was okay, but the way Theo behaved would have gotten him fired within the first few days he started working there. No boss would have ever put up with his crap. I won't be reading any more of Alex Michaelides's works in the future.
I do, however, want to try Run Away by Harlan Coben and The Killer Collective by Barry Eisler. I've never heard of Barry Eisler but the story sounds interesting. And I enjoy Harlan Coben's books, so I can't imagine this one would be any different.

Vaibhav Thanks for sharing this list. Till now I have read:-

1. My Lovely Wife

3. The Night Olivia Fell

I absolutely loved all three of the above. All three of them have been really hard to put down once started. My absolute favorite is The Silent Patient.

I am now starting No Exit.

message 97: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Rhett my lovely wife is AMAZING! everyone should read.
anonymous girl was great, i felt like it took awhile to get super interesting in my opinion

message 98: by Bradley (new)

Bradley Valentine I already read The Killer Collective by Barry Eisler. Great book, as usual, Barry. I've been following his career since I picked up the first John Rain book. I'm sure Barry sells a buttload of books, but am I correct that that he's underrated. Shame, if so. The dude is consistent in ways very difficult in a project using the SAME handful of characters, give or take a dash of fresh blood and faces now and again.

My only regret is that the John Rain cable series meant to film with Keanu frickin Reeves after John Wick completed (such was my understanding at the time).

The Rain show was to be produced and directed by the John Wick team. Those guy together with Eisler's work. Gah! It's so perfect it's painful that it didn't happen!

Last I heard was that the series went away or maybe the film rights lapsed due to the Wick series becoming the monster it has become.

But c'mon! Keanu as Rain is beyond perfect. And Eisler couldn't have been happier to have the JW creative team being involved.

Can't wait for the next book, Barry.
