Top 100 Romance Novels on Goodreads
Get in the mood with our list of the top 100 romances of all time. We narrowed the field by limiting our results to books aimed at adult audiences and books with at least a 3.9 average rating. Contemporary romance is read in the greatest numbers, but we also included results in popular sub-genres like historical and paranormal romance.

I've read 15 and have 3 on my TBR list.

I've read five. But, where's "Wuthering Heights"? You have "Jane Eyre". The two go hand in hand as the two greatest love stories ever.
I've read 20, have a bunch on my TBR list, and there's two that I started and then rage-quit because they were terrible and idk how they're on her (IMO).

Co-sign CoHo and Sandy. Very rude.
I've read 7 of these, and most were classics. I'm always more likely to pick up a classic novel than a romance novel.
Sandy S wrote: "very rude of GOODREADS to call out Fifty Shades of Grey...."hahaha I think what Goodreads was trying to say is that - even though wildly popular - Fifty Shades can't be on this list because its rating is under 3.9 ( I think it's at 3.6 !)
Only 9! Honestly that makes sense, I've never classified myself as a romance reader in the past, but thanks to Goodreads Romance Week last year/this year I'm realizing I kind of love it. Definitely need to read Gone with the Wind, it's been on my TBR forever!
Backstage Pass leads to another book page and it is not showing correct read status in this blog page.
15 read, a few on my tbr, a few I regret ever reading and can't believe they made this list, and a few I'll never read.
Okay, but where's Eleanor And Park. Maybe others don't think Fangirl would make it but at least Carry On or Eleanor and Park have to make it.
Jane Eyre isn't a romance novel. Neither is Me Before You, or anything by Nicholas Sparks. There's probably a few others I haven't read that don't fit.Romance is a genre of few rules, but the core of the story being the romantic relationship between two (or more) people and the optimistic ending are really not negotiable.
