Romance Week 2020

Get in the mood with our list of the top 100 romances of all time. We narrowed the field by limiting our results to books aimed at adult audiences and books with at least a 3.9 average rating. Contemporary romance is read in the greatest numbers, but we also included results in popular sub-genres like historical and paranormal romance.

What's your "number"? How many have you read? Tell us in the comments!

message 3: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra Cueva I've read 29 and have some on my list for this year.

message 4: by Gilbert (new)

Gilbert I've read five. But, where's "Wuthering Heights"? You have "Jane Eyre". The two go hand in hand as the two greatest love stories ever.

message 5: by Liliflaj (new)

Liliflaj 46

message 6: by Neus (new)

Neus Gutiérrez 76/100 Not bad

message 7: by Pat (new)

Pat 22 read...but many more to be read

message 8: by Ilium (new)

Ilium 14, many of them I have re-read a few times too :)

Lauren Elizabeth I've read 20, have a bunch on my TBR list, and there's two that I started and then rage-quit because they were terrible and idk how they're on her (IMO).

message 10: by Jyoti (new)

Jyoti 4 read and 1 on tbr

message 11: by Mohini (new)

Mohini Jugran I've read 38.. 6 on TBR list..

message 12: by Rachel (new)

Rachel KnownAsLavinia wrote: "why is call me by your name missing??"
Seconded.

message 13: by Ty (new)

Ty 47...hmm. must tbr more...

message 14: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Perez 82/100...

message 15: by Misty (new)

Misty 7, but 14 are on my TBR list! I need to read more!

message 16: by Sandy S (new)

Sandy S very rude of GOODREADS to call out Fifty Shades of Grey....

message 17: by Colleen (new)

Colleen Hoover Sandy S wrote: "very rude of GOODREADS to call out Fifty Shades of Grey...."

Agreed.

message 18: by Elena (new)

Elena 35 read!
But now i'm going to go through this list and pick what i'll be reading next :))

message 19: by Kim (new)

Kim Peckitt Colleen wrote: "Sandy S wrote: "very rude of GOODREADS to call out Fifty Shades of Grey...."

Co-sign CoHo and Sandy. Very rude.

message 20: by Linda (last edited Feb 11, 2019 11:04AM) (new)

Linda Martin I've read 7 of these, and most were classics. I'm always more likely to pick up a classic novel than a romance novel.

message 21: by Elena (new)

Elena Sandy S wrote: "very rude of GOODREADS to call out Fifty Shades of Grey...."

hahaha I think what Goodreads was trying to say is that - even though wildly popular - Fifty Shades can't be on this list because its rating is under 3.9 ( I think it's at 3.6 !)

message 22: by Allie (new)

Allie Only 9! Honestly that makes sense, I've never classified myself as a romance reader in the past, but thanks to Goodreads Romance Week last year/this year I'm realizing I kind of love it. Definitely need to read Gone with the Wind, it's been on my TBR forever!

message 23: by Kiki (new)

Kiki I have read 25

message 24: by Carole (new)

Carole I'm ashamed to say that I've only read 8 of these :( But that will be rectified this year.

message 25: by Melai (new)

Melai 40/100

message 26: by ❥Lil (new)

❥Lil Backstage Pass leads to another book page and it is not showing correct read status in this blog page.

message 27: by Ixtli (new)

Ixtli No Twilight, but at least three former Twilight fanfics.

Interesting...

message 28: by Liliana (new)

Liliana I'm not a big romance reader, but I feel I have to say this... Those covers are cringy af.

message 29: by Karen M (new)

Karen M I'm surprised that I've read 8. Now I'll go back and see if I can increase my TBR list.📖

message 30: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah 2.

message 31: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Larson 21

message 32: by Shannon (new)

Shannon 15 read, a few on my tbr, a few I regret ever reading and can't believe they made this list, and a few I'll never read.

message 33: by Patty (new)

Patty Wilkin Okay, but where's Eleanor And Park. Maybe others don't think Fangirl would make it but at least Carry On or Eleanor and Park have to make it.

message 34: by Sass (new)

Sass Jane Eyre isn't a romance novel. Neither is Me Before You, or anything by Nicholas Sparks. There's probably a few others I haven't read that don't fit.

Romance is a genre of few rules, but the core of the story being the romantic relationship between two (or more) people and the optimistic ending are really not negotiable.

message 35: by NancyJ (last edited Feb 11, 2019 01:41PM) (new)

NancyJ Liliana wrote: "I'm not a big romance reader, but I feel I have to say this... Those covers are cringy af."

I agree! I hate to judge a book by its' cover, but some of these covers leave you in no doubt about what to expect.

message 36: by Brenda (new)

Brenda 15 but I have some in my want-to-read shelf

message 37: by Ariadne (new)

Ariadne Liesel I have read 5 and just added 4 more to my TBR list

message 38: by Armelle (last edited Feb 11, 2019 02:21PM) (new)

Armelle 8, and I don’t see all that many that I’m likely to add, which surprises me a little.

message 39: by Korina (new)

Korina Mills Norwegian Wood is NOT a romance novel >:|

message 40: by faith ✨ (new)
