From the creator of Hannibal Lecter and The Silence of the Lambs comes a story of evil, greed, and the consequences of dark obsession.
Twenty-five million dollars in cartel gold lies hidden beneath a mansion on the Miami Beach waterfront. Ruthless men have tracked it for years. Leading the pack is Hans-Peter Schneider. He makes a living fleshing out the violent fantasies of other, richer men.
Cari Mora, caretaker of the house, has escaped from the violence in her native country. She stays in Miami on a wobbly Temporary Protected Status, subject to the iron whim of ICE. Cari catches the eye of Hans-Peter as he closes in on the treasure. But Cari Mora has surprising skills, and her will to survive has been tested before.
Hans-Peter Schneider’s boat slid very slowly past the great house on Biscayne Bay, water gurgling along the black hull.
Through his binoculars Hans-Peter watched Cari Mora, twenty-five, in her pajama pants and tank top as she stretched on the terrace in the early morning light.
“My goodness,” he said. Hans-Peter’s canine teeth are rather long and they have silver in them that shows when he smiles.
Hans-Peter is tall and pale, totally hairless. Lacking lashes, his eyelids touched the glass of his binoculars, making smudges. He wiped the eyepieces with a linen handkerchief.
The house-agent Felix stood behind him on the boat.
“That’s her. The caretaker,” Felix said.
Cari Mora will be available in the U.S. on May 21, 2019 (and elsewhere also in May). Don’t forget to add it to your Want to Read shelf! While you wait to get your hands on the new book, you can also re-read Harris' most popular books...

Oooooh Yasssssss! Why do ya make me wait, Thomas Harris? I cannot wait to read it! Sounds so damn good and I know I'm going to devour it in one day. I hate that I read his books so dang on fast! But that's a sign of what an outstanding author he is. One of my all-time favs. Yaaaaaay! Whoo Hoooo!
I love Thomas Harris, but I hope there is a good edit before May! In the sneak peek, the tense switches and I cannot bear it when that happens. I think I will wait until the reviews come out before buying, as much as I love Harris, particularly Black Sunday.
What? No Hannibal Lector? No Clarice Starling? No Jack Crawford? No Will Graham?!!!Ok. I’ll read it. I’m easy. And very happy.
Since Silence of The Lambs his books have gradually deteriorated. I don't hold out much hope for this one.
I will totally read this one. Not holding my expectations high, because of that book I like to pretend it doesn't exist (*cough* Hannibal Rising)
Very excited for this. Love his books. This has been a long time coming. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
I’m looking forward to this. The longer he takes to write a book the better the final product turns out to be.
THIS IS A MUST READ!! Thomas Harris has a vivid imagination and the uncanny talent to pull his readers into the middle of the danger and fear that only he can create! Can't wait to unwrap this new thriller!
This is such exciting news. I can't wait to see what he does with the locale, as I used to live there.
Landon wrote: "Please don’t be as bad Hannibal Rising"I too was disappointed by the book, especially after enjoying all the other books. A rare case where the movie was better than the book.
Claire wrote: "I love Thomas Harris, but I hope there is a good edit before May! In the sneak peek, the tense switches and I cannot bear it when that happens. Some may consider it edgy writing style, but it grates on me. I find present tense narration difficult to get on with in any form. Let's hope he changes his mind.
Why has Thomas Harris waited so long to write another book? I am truly looking forward to this. Definitely in my Want to Read list.
I was excited to hear about this but reading that excerpt...wow that’s rough. Hopefully the actual book is better

WAIT.
