Top 100 Mysteries & Thrillers on Goodreads
Culprits, spies, bad guys, and women with vendettas: There's something so very satisfying about spending your time with the criminal element. And by that, we mean following the clues and solving the capers when you sit down with a great mystery or thriller. Always in search of a great book, Goodreads recently set out to uncover your 100 most-loved thrillers and mysteries.
There are, of course, rules to this game. Namely, every one of these books has at least a 4.0 rating from the Goodreads community. That means it's a bit of a popularity contest; for example Gone Girl is represented with a 4.04 rating, but another girl—Girl on a Train—just misses the list at 3.89. Then there are the usual suspects you won't find on this list: The Maltese Falcon (3.92), Angels & Demons (3.87), and Strangers on a Train (3.81) among others. It may seem brutal, but the readers have spoken.
Of course, many of your favorite writers have stayed with a character for a while, so in the cases of serialized mysteries and thrillers, we picked the books that, again, are over 4.0 and have the largest number of ratings.
It's time to unveil the top 100 Mysteries & Thrillers on Goodreads, arranged in alphabetical order. How many have you read? Tell us in the comments.

13 but I’m coping a few to add to my “to be read” list.

37 for me. I've been reading mysteries for 40 years - the list is WAY heavy on thrillers (and some are only marginally a thriller at that!!). It would be nice to see separate lists for each genre - top rating 100 ratings for each genre. Pop culture titles like Gone Girl probably pushed out titles like The Maltese Falcon and other notables.
I only have one of these on my to-read list, haha. Hey Goodreads, any chance you'd make one of these lists with mostly YA books? That's mostly all I read!

I m currently reading E, so a couple more to go before I reach your choice (M)."
Because you'll be reading them faster than Grafton wrote them, you'll be very aware of the change of tone as Kinsey gains experience. One of my favorite Grafton lines is in D Is for Deadbeat: Her hair was so dry and brittle that I worried about spontaneous combustion.
Can I personally recommend this really underrated author, Mark Gimenez and his first two books, 'The Color of Law' and 'Accused'. Both the books are absolutely brilliant and I would love to see him get the recognition he deserves.
Only 6! I don't read Agatha Christie, David Baldacci, John Grisham or a lot of the others. So many other good authors missed out on the list for all those Agatha Christie's
Mario wrote: "45. I know I have read more of these but so long ago I can’t remember exactly."Same with me, Mario. I counted 39 but there were a couple that I think I've read and of course, at least three that are sitting on my 'want to read' list.
35. And I think it misses a number of books from my top ten, Like a "DAUGHTER OF TIME" etc. Plus I don't like mixing genres. Thrillers are different from Mysteries and should not be mixed. Just like SF and Fantasy.
40. Many of my favorite mystery authors who are not American don‘t appear in this list at all. And many of my earlier American favorites are also missing. But that‘s just the nature of the Goodreads rating scheme.
Disappointed not to find anything by three of my favorite suspense writers - Greg Iles, Laura Lippman and Robin Cook - on this list. I've read a few, want to read a few more, and have seen movies based on several.
