Mehsi Yay, a new year in books! *cheers* Too bad I keep getting Aliced when I try to go to the page. :P Hope it will work later today.

message 3: by Erin (new)

Erin Wish Goodreads would have waited just a little bit longer to do because I am 1 book shy of my 100 books reading challenge and I'll get it finished in the next couple of days. I would have liked to have seen it met on this overview. Otherwise, love this so much.

It should update after you mark that you read it! I had to update mine because a few didn't have the dates on it that I finished reading!

message 5: by idiffer (new)

idiffer It's ironic how little authors read. That should be half their job.

I agree. I'm in school for Creative Writing and several of my teachers have said, "Writers should read at least 1 - 2 books a month, at minimum". It is truly astounding sometimes to learn that authors don't read all that much. (Now, this could be speculation, because there could have been several books read that weren't documented on here, and I can completely understand, because before this year, I didn't put too much on here.)

Any books you add with a date read in 2017 will be added to Your Year in Books! It should update automatically once you add the read date.

Thanks for the help, Shaina!

When you update your list of books you read, it will add it in.

message 9: by Steve (new)

Steve Callahan too bad I can't share it on FB.

message 10: by Dina (new)

Dina Just like last year, the total number of pages is inaccurate because the end of year stats count the pages of audiobooks. Yes, I have shelved them as audiobooks. It still adds the pages.

message 11: by Janice (new)

Janice I didn't really expect to read 100 books --and it really doesn't matter to me. I read --and write--for the love of reading. I'm 55, and have been working in a public library for 31 years...and counting. Don't give me Erotica --of any form-- or fiction books with a sad ending. Happy Hanukkah, and Merry Christmas.

Emily Steve wrote: "too bad I can't share it on FB."

There is a share button for Facebook at the top of Your Year in Books. If it isn't working properly, please use the Contact Us page and our team can help you troubleshoot.

You are correct that for audiobooks we count the number of pages from the book's default edition to Your Year in Books. We're open to hearing your feedback on on this!

message 13: by Janice (new)

Janice I need to get into audiobooks, and e-books (I have a Nook), but I'm happiest with a hardcopy format book, in my hands.

message 14: by Amber (last edited Dec 13, 2017 09:54AM) (new)

Amber Martingale How do we delete duplicate editions from the list of books finished? I didn't read the mass market paperback copy of Joanne Fluke's Banana Cream Pie Murder, just the hardcover version and I only read that edition once.

That my idea for an improvement: the ability to delete duplicate editions that were accidentally added.

Emily Amber wrote: "How do we delete duplicate editions from the list of books finished? I didn't read the mass market paperback copy of Joanne Fluke's Banana Cream Pie Murder, just the hardcover version and I only re..."

If you go to the book page of the incorrect edition and click "Edit" on the "My Activity" section, you can use the "Remove from my books" link in the bottom right to remove it.

message 16: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Well, a few hours after and I still can't reach the page. It just stops after a few minutes and I see Alice. :( Never had that problem previous years. Hopefully it gets fixed/or magically I can go to the page.

message 17: by Marren (new)

Marren Why is there no automatic WordPress shared button? Every time I visit any site, I wish this...ahhh. They power 29% of the Internet (half smiles and shrug). "I need to be ready when inspiration hits me."

Uhhh....WHAT "My Activity" section? According to https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... this edition HASN'T been published yet!

Sorry for the trouble with this! Can you try clearing your cache and then access the page again? If the issue persists, let us know which browser you're using and we can help troubleshoot further.

Amber wrote: "Emily wrote: "Amber wrote: "How do we delete duplicate editions from the list of books finished? I didn't read the mass market paperback copy of Joanne Fluke's Banana Cream Pie Murder, just the har..."

The "My Activity" section should appear on the page for any book you have shelved, directly under the book details. The book's publication status does not affect the appearance of the "My Activity" section, since books can be added to shelves pre-publication.

If you need further assistance, please email us at support (at) goodreads (dot) com and a member of our team will be happy to help.

I go into my read books, and then on the side of the page it has 'your reading activity' 'add books' and 'tools'. Under tools it has find duplicates, and I delete them from there. Hope that helps, I was surprised how many duplicates I had when I first found it!

The problem persists, I keep getting: "Goodreads request took too long." With of course Alice. :P I am using Chrome (latest version of it). I also tried Firefox (also the latest version) and same issue. I am guessing it is the amount of books, but I never had that problem last year when I had more books. :(

Thanks for getting back to me! It seems that the problem is indeed the number of books. I've let our team know about this and will post any updates here.

message 25: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa I love this updated version! Very nice!!

message 26: by wildmary (new)

wildmary Some feedback: It would be so nice if the "Highest Rated on Goodreads" showed the reader's rating as well instead of just the average rating. Maybe something to consider for next year, please?

message 27: by ♥ Rebecca ♥ (last edited Dec 13, 2017 02:11PM) (new)

♥ Rebecca ♥ It would be nice if you could comment on people's years at the very bottom underneath all their books, like commenting on a review.

And so glad you like it, Nyssa!

Krissy I'm having the same problem Mehsi is having. Our book count is about the same too. I hope it's fixed soon!

message 31: by Ewa (new)

Ewa Gajer There is a button 'Edit" under My Year in books, which does not seem to work. Is it possible to choose different books to be displayed in prominent positions?

message 32: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn Is there a way to see previous years' Year in Books?

message 33: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa Caitlyn wrote: "Is there a way to see previous years' Year in Books?"

Yes, click on “See Previous Year” in the top left corner of the page.
You can also change the year in the actual web address.

message 34: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa Ewa wrote: "There is a button 'Edit" under My Year in books, which does not seem to work. Is it possible to choose different books to be displayed in prominent positions?"

No, only by adding or subtracting books.
The edit button is to add/change the title under the banner at the top of the page.

Over 1000. I have the same issue Mehsi has

message 44: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Amber wrote: "Define "lots of book.""

No clue what the actual cut-off would be for it to crash, but from what I see it seems to be people who have over 1000+ books read in a year.

message 45: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I'm not THAT ambitious, Mehsi, Krissy. Thank God!

message 46: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa I see that our link is on our profile page.

(1) Will/ Can it stay there, and be updated every year (like the Challenge)?

(2) Can we also have a way to access it from the Homepage?
I don't visit my profile page much. I know who am I and what I've done on the site, so there isn't much reason for me to visit my own profile page. I do, however, like looking at my stats so I can see myself revisiting my previous "Year in Books."

message 47: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale 1. It's gonna disappear soon, Nyssa. And it won't reappear until it's time to review your 2018 Year in Books.

2. Yes, you can visit from the Homepage. Just click the link.

1. I'm asking for them to keep the current year's Review up during the year. Meaning that the 2018 version remain up during 2018.

2. There is no link to the year in review on the Homepage, only on the Profile page, now the newest blog post is up.

message 49: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale It was there yesterday. You could try the hyperlink in the blog itself.

message 50: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine People read over 1000 books a year?! Wow! Even 100 seems like a lot to me. (I can only manage about 25 to 35 books.)
