San Francisco, CA (February 26, 2016): San Franciscans can learn how to build a Moog synthesizer and experience a live performance by legendary synthesist and electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani at Moogfest Dial-Tones at Gray Area Art & Technology Center on Saturday, March 5th.
Taking place in select cities around the world, Dial-Tones is an event series offering an exclusive preview of the Moogfest 2016 experience. Curated by Moogfest, Dial-Tones celebrates the form and frequencies surrounding ambient, drone, and microtonal compositions, as well as the technology behind the art of synthesis. The San Francisco edition is presented in partnership with Gray Area, a Moogfest 2016 Program Partner.
Celebrating the legacy of Dr. Robert Moog and the influence his inventions have had on how people hear the world, Moogfest 2016 will feature more than 250 of the world’s most forward-thinking musicians, artists, and technologists -- from GZA, Gary Numan, Laurie Anderson and Grimes to virtual-reality pioneer Jaron Lanier, transhumanist visionary Dr. Martine Rothblatt, and cyborg artist Neil Harbisson. For more on the lineup and programming, visit www.moogfest.com.
Dial-Tones will kickoff with afternoon and early evening workshops for children and adults, led by Moog Music engineer Chris David Howe. The workshops will allow participants to explore the beauty and power of analog circuitry and subtractive synthesis by building a Moog Werkstatt-01 synthesizer. Special $200 Moogfest 2016 pre-sale tickets are available to Dial-Tones attendees with special packages available that also include a synthesizer.

Dial-Tones will continue into the evening with Moogfest 2016 headliner Suzanne Ciani’s first solo performance with the Buchla synthesizer in 40 years. Ciani will perform in quadraphonic sound for an all out immersive sonic experience. An after-party will follow featuring DJ sets by INHALT and Justin Anastasi.

Seating is limited for all Dial-Tones events. Please reserve a spot today by RSVPing at: https://dialtonessf.eventbrite.com
